Steel structure spraying technology knowledge

When it comes to using a sprayer for iron shelves and steel structures, proper surface preparation is essential. But do you know the key technical details involved? Experts recommend that before applying any paint, the steel surface should be thoroughly cleaned and polished. In fact, it's best to apply the first coat of paint within 4 hours after polishing to ensure optimal adhesion and protection.

First and foremost, the surface of the steel structure must be properly prepared by grinding to remove rust, oxidation, and other contaminants. This step is crucial for ensuring long-term durability. According to the GB8923 standard, the surface treatment should reach at least Sa2.5 grade, which means thorough cleaning. The surface roughness should be between 35-75 micrometers, and after sanding, all dust and debris must be removed completely.

Next, it’s recommended to finish the first coat of paint within 4 hours after polishing. When selecting a primer, many professionals opt for ET-98 inorganic phosphate long-lasting zinc-rich paint, which offers excellent corrosion resistance. Before painting, the surface should be degreased and free from rust. Tools like wire brushes, sanders, or abrasive paper are commonly used for this purpose.

If you're dealing with welded parts, it's important to avoid painting for at least 72 hours after welding. This allows the metal to cool down and stabilizes the surface, preventing potential issues during the coating process.

For galvanized surfaces, a light sweeping method can be used to remove dust, oil, and other impurities. Afterward, applying an epoxy iron red anti-corrosive paint, such as 70-H, can provide additional protection and enhance the longevity of the structure.
