Compared to general mechanical components, rolling bearing parts have unique structural features. They are typically short and thin, with an inverted outer ring shape, which simplifies the machining process. Most of these parts are processed using lathes and grinders. Due to their slender design, axial stiffness is relatively high, while radial stiffness is lower. This means that during processing, special attention must be given to deformation control. Although the structure of rolling bearings may seem simple, the manufacturing process requires a high level of precision and skill. Here are some key characteristics of bearing part production: 1. **Precision Grinding**: Most of the fine-machined bearing components require grinding. The tolerances involved are often in the micrometer range. For example, the raceway and rolling elements of the inner and outer rings demand high accuracy, often requiring super-finishing or specialized grinding techniques. 2. **High Multi-Process Requirements**: Bearing production involves a large number of processes. On average, a single bearing may go through 20 to 40 operations, sometimes even exceeding 70 steps. This complexity necessitates efficient and well-planned production lines. 3. **Use of Forming Methods**: Many bearing parts are manufactured using forming techniques such as casting, rolling, and grinding. These methods are especially effective for shaping the raceways of the bearing cups. Tools like forming cutters or anti-type plates are commonly used in this process. Additionally, most bearings are standardized products, with high demand for similar types. To increase efficiency, reduce costs, ensure consistent quality, and adopt new technologies, bearing manufacturers typically produce in large volumes based on specific bearing types. In some cases, they may even set up dedicated automated lines or assembly lines for mass production.
