Unsaturated polyester - performance characteristics

1. Excellent process performance is one of the main advantages of unsaturated polyester resins. They can be cured at room temperature, molded under normal pressure, and offer great flexibility in processing. This makes them particularly suitable for large-scale production and on-site manufacturing of FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics) products. The ease of handling and low energy requirements further enhance their appeal in industrial applications.

2. After curing, unsaturated polyester resins exhibit good overall performance. While their mechanical properties are slightly lower than those of epoxy resins, they outperform phenolic resins in many aspects. Their corrosion resistance, electrical insulation properties, and flame retardancy can be tailored by selecting the appropriate resin grade. Additionally, these resins are light in color and can be used to produce transparent or semi-transparent products, making them ideal for a variety of aesthetic and functional applications.

3. There is a wide range of unsaturated polyester resins available, each designed for specific uses. Their versatility allows them to be adapted to different environments and requirements. Moreover, compared to other types of resins, they are relatively inexpensive, making them a cost-effective choice for many industries.

4. However, there are some disadvantages to consider. One major drawback is the high shrinkage rate during the curing process, which can affect the dimensional stability of the final product. These resins also have a short shelf life, requiring careful storage and handling. Another concern is the presence of styrene, a volatile organic compound that can release irritating gases during processing. Prolonged exposure may pose health risks, so proper ventilation and safety measures are essential when working with these materials.

As Cast Concrete Formwork

It is a construction product that is made by casting concrete in a reusable mold or "formwork", then curing it in a controlled environment, transporting it to the construction site and lifting it in place ("tilting upward "). Instead, the standard concrete is poured into the form of a specific location and cured on site. Recently, expanded polystyrene has been used as the core of prefabricated wall panels. It is lightweight and has better thermal insulation properties.
