Machine tools play an important role in all walks of life

With the rapid advancement of science and technology in China and the growing influence of the manufacturing sector, domestic processing demands have become increasingly personalized, and the frequency of production has risen significantly. As a result, the diversity of machine tool products has become a key indicator for assessing the overall strength of a country's machine tool industry. In China, the demand for various types of processing equipment, such as surface grinders, has been steadily increasing. Driven by market needs, the Chinese machine tool industry has made great efforts to innovate and develop new products. Each year, over 400 new products with independent intellectual property rights are introduced. By the end of 2002, nearly 3,500 different types of updated machine tools were available nationally, placing China among the world leaders in this field. China’s forging equipment, electrical processing machines, and specialized processing systems are now comprehensive, high-performance, and feature-rich. Notable examples include the mechanical presses developed by Jinan No. 2 Machine Tool Factory, which have expanded pressure capacities from 20,000 kN to 63,000 kN, meeting international standards and even supplying seven stamping lines for General Motors. The automatic lines developed by Shanghai Forging Machine Tool Plant, including an 860-ton hydraulic press capable of handling 12-meter automobile girders, match the quality of foreign counterparts. Tianshui Forging Machine Tool Factory also stands out with its large-diameter steel pipe production line and advanced CNC hydraulic bending machines, which are rare globally. Electric discharge machining (EDM) equipment in China is now self-sufficient, with annual output reaching 20,000 units, and 80% of them being CNC models. Technological advancements have extended into micro-EDM, high-tech EDM milling for aerospace components, and specialized processing of super-hard materials. These developments highlight China’s growing expertise in precision manufacturing. Machine tools play a vital role in various industries and serve as a reflection of a nation’s industrial capabilities. The variety and quality of machine tool products directly impact the speed and innovation of the manufacturing sector. Over time, shifts in demand within the machine tool industry have often coincided with broader industrial transformations. During the third industrial revolution, advanced manufacturing technologies flourished. After experiencing two major industrial revolutions, traditional machine tool industries have gained renewed attention. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in patent applications filed by foreign machine tool companies in China. In response, China has focused on improving its independent innovation system, especially in high-end CNC machine tools and all-digital AC servo drives. This has led to successful outcomes in intellectual property development. At a seminar in Shenyang in 2013, Xu Zhengping of Shanghai Machine Tool Group suggested that the convergence of internet communication technology and new energy could trigger the next industrial revolution. Countries like Germany, Italy, and Japan have taken this seriously, anticipating a 25–35-year transition period before the next wave of change. Factors such as resource consumption, environmental pollution, and rising labor costs are seen as catalysts for this transformation. Historically, every 20 years has marked a major shift in the machine tool industry. From the UK in the 1940s and 1960s, to the U.S. during the Apollo program in the 1960s, and Japan’s dominance in the 1980s through 2000, each era saw a shift in leadership. China became the world’s largest consumer of machine tools after 2002, replacing imports as a key mission for the domestic industry. By 2009, domestic machine tools accounted for 70% of the market, but this dropped to 65% in 2010 and 50% in 2012, showing a clear decline. Facing the challenges of the next industrial revolution, traditional manufacturers must adapt. Shenyang Machine Tool Group has pioneered new strategies, such as opening 4S-style service centers, similar to car dealerships. After becoming the world’s largest machine tool manufacturer in 2011, the company shifted focus toward customer-oriented services and intelligent manufacturing. According to Guan Xiyou, the group aims to compete based on integrated services, meeting the needs of high-volume, personalized production. In the future, R&D will center around customer needs, with intelligence at the core. The ability to provide faster, more intelligent, and personalized services will determine competitive success. Economist Luo Baihui believes the upcoming third industrial revolution will reshape global economic structures, driven by technological breakthroughs and deepening manufacturing innovations. Born out of crisis, this revolution is expected to redefine industrial economies and the distribution of high-end manufacturing globally.

Super Abrasives

Superabrasives come in the form of grinding wheels and are used when the material being processed is either too hard or too delicate for regular abrasives.

Industrial diamonds are one of the most common materials used to create the grinding material. Contrary to popular belief, diamonds are not as rare as marketing campaigns will tell you.

After diamonds, cubic boron nitride is the second more durable material for cutting. This is followed by polycrystalline.

The most obvious advantage is that these Grinding Wheels are extremely hard and durable. This allows them to give better performance and greater longevity over regular abrasives.

When your wheel lasts longer you will see reduced costs for fixtures and tooling. This opens up your budget up to investing in more machines.

You will notice that the wear and cuts on your materials will be even. Because the abrasiveness of the wheel is so strong, it doesn`t develop uneven worn away spots as quickly as regular abrasive wheels.

So the output from your production will be consistent. So your manufacturing efforts will produce reliable and consistent results.

It can be tough to justify the upfront increased costs of superabrasive wheels. But the durability and quality of their production output make them well worth it.

But you`ll quickly realize that your productivity has increased by using superabrasives. You will have more parts processed per wheel and fewer wheel changes.

Kemei produces both conventional grinding wheel and super abrasive grinding wheels, such as white aluminum grinding wheel, pink wheel ,green silicon wheel, diamond grinding wheel and CBN grinding wheels.
