Diamond new project will be successful in participating in the auction of scientific and technological achievements

On the morning of September 15, Ningbo made history as it hosted its first scientific and technological achievements auction. The event, titled "Kaichui," saw eight innovative projects go under the hammer, ultimately fetching a total of 3.833 million yuan—far exceeding initial expectations. Among them, the "Industrialization Project of Diamond Powder Surface Functionalization and Diamond Composite Materials" stood out as the most valuable, selling for 1.6 million yuan after seven rounds of intense bidding in just five minutes. The project, which started at a base price of 1 million yuan with a minimum bid increment of 50,000 yuan, attracted significant interest. This technology has wide-ranging applications, from high-speed machining to ultra-high-temperature heat conduction and advanced tool development. For instance, when applied to cutting tools, it can boost cutting speed by over five times while maintaining the same service life. When integrated into consumer electronics like smartphones or computers, it helps prevent overheating during use. Jiang Nan, the project’s lead researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Materials Science, expressed surprise at the final price. “This is much higher than we expected,” he said. “What makes me even happier is that through this auction, we’ve seen our intellectual property and research results gain real market recognition.” The winning bidder, who also happens to be the head of Ningbo Jingdrill Technology Industrial Co., Ltd., was equally excited. “This auction is just the beginning,” he said. “We hope it opens the door to more collaborations with the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the future.” The entire auction lasted only 40 minutes, with all eight projects successfully sold. According to Huang Wei, president of the Ningbo Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Information Technology Application, the event marked a shift in how research and industry interact. “In the past, researchers had to seek out companies. Now, companies are coming to us,” he noted, highlighting the growing market demand for scientific innovations. Yang Jianzhou, director of the cooperation department at the Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau, called the result “better than expected.” He added that similar auctions will take place in Zhejiang Province in November, with 30 projects already lined up for participation in Ningbo. Looking ahead, the city plans to bring in more intermediaries to facilitate such events, creating a stronger bridge between research institutions and enterprises.
