First, the dust blocking efficiency of masks. The effectiveness of a mask in preventing dust depends largely on its ability to block fine particles, especially those smaller than 5 microns. These tiny particles can easily reach the lungs and cause serious health issues. Traditional gauze masks rely on mechanical filtration, where larger particles are trapped by the fabric's fibers. However, they are less effective against ultrafine dust that can pass through the mesh and enter the respiratory system. In contrast, many dust masks from abroad use electrostatically charged filter materials. As fine dust passes through, it is attracted by static charges and captured, significantly improving the mask’s protective performance.

Second, the fit of the mask and facial shape. A mask must fit snugly against the face to prevent harmful particles from entering through gaps. If the mask doesn’t seal properly, air will flow around it, allowing dangerous substances to bypass the filter. Even the best mask won’t protect you if it doesn’t fit well. Many countries have strict regulations requiring workers to undergo fit tests to ensure proper mask selection and correct usage. This helps maintain safety and reduces the risk of exposure.

Third, comfort during wear. A good mask should be lightweight, easy to breathe through, and comfortable for long periods. It should also be hygienic and easy to maintain. Masks that are uncomfortable may lead to improper use or frequent removal, reducing their effectiveness. Some modern non-maintainable masks are designed to be used until they become saturated or damaged, after which they are discarded. This ensures cleanliness and eliminates the need for regular cleaning or part replacement. Additionally, masks with an ergonomic design help improve both fit and comfort, making them more suitable for extended use in the workplace.
