Solve the problem of "bad stalk" in tomato

Tomato bacterial pith necrosis, commonly known as "wilt disease," can significantly impact the growth and development of tomato plants. Once infected, the plant begins to wilt, which hinders its ability to grow and ripen properly. Effective pesticide management is crucial in controlling this issue. Below are the symptoms and prevention strategies for "tomato pith rot." **Symptoms:** This disease typically appears at the wound sites left after pruning or removing branches. If the tomato stem is damaged, the inner pith may turn yellow-brown or necrotic, while the vascular tissue becomes dark brown. This disrupts the plant's ability to transport water, leading to wilting. According to pesticide reports, this condition is more likely to occur under low temperatures, high humidity, and excessive nitrogen fertilizer use. In severe cases, dark brown streaks appear on the stems, eventually causing the entire plant to die. **Prevention and Treatment:** 1. **Control greenhouse conditions:** Maintain an optimal temperature and avoid overly humid environments that promote pathogen spread. 2. **Improve farming practices:** Avoid activities like fruit picking or pruning during rainy days when humidity is high, as these can increase infection risk. 3. **Remove infected plants immediately:** If a plant shows signs of infection, remove it promptly and apply lime or wood ash to the soil to disinfect and prevent further spread. 4. **Use appropriate fungicides:** When the disease first appears, apply copper quinolate or thiabendazole via foliar spray. For severe infections, perform root irrigation using a mixture of quinoline copper and beneficial bacteria. Apply approximately 500 grams of solution per plant, repeating the treatment every week for three consecutive times to ensure full recovery. By following these steps, farmers can effectively manage and reduce the impact of tomato pith rot, ensuring healthier and more productive crops.
