According to the Task Force, only substances with high biodegradability that can potentially cause cancer are classified as Group 2B by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). This category includes durable ceramic fibers used in high-temperature industrial applications and certain specialized glass wools not intended for thermal insulation. On the other hand, commonly used glass fiber products like insulating glass wool, rock wool, and slag wool are now classified as possible carcinogens. Continuous glass fibers, often used to reinforce plastics, are considered non-carcinogenic to humans. However, they can still irritate the respiratory system and skin, so their use should be restricted to industrial settings with proper containment measures. It has been confirmed that all types of artificial glass fibers—including continuous glass fiber, rock (mineral) wool, and glass wool—do not cause cancer.
