Most children's furniture can not reach the new national standard solid wood furniture has become mainstream

The new national standard for children's furniture has been in effect for over six months, yet many products still fail to meet the updated requirements. Recently, the Shanghai Quality Inspection Department reported that IKEA’s children’s furniture does not comply with the new regulations, raising concerns about safety and quality. This revelation has sparked public attention on the issue of children’s furniture safety. A reporter visited the furniture market in Changzhou City and found that several businesses are still selling non-compliant products. Children’s furniture comes in a wide variety of styles and price ranges. In Changzhou, there are nearly 20 well-known brand stores at Red Star Macalline and Yuexing Furniture, as well as other local markets where children’s furniture is commonly available. High-end sets can cost over 15,000 yuan, while more affordable options start around 3,000 yuan. Despite this, during the investigation, the reporter discovered that some shops are still selling substandard furniture. At Jiajiaai Furniture Decoration Market, a store selling pine wood beds had sharp edges and right angles—clearly not meeting the safety standards for children’s furniture. When asked if the bed was specifically designed for kids, the salesperson claimed it was "universal" and used by some companies for their dormitories. Similar issues were found with children’s beds and tables and chairs. Industry insiders suggest that while most established brands follow the standards closely, smaller manufacturers often struggle to meet the requirements, leading to potential quality issues. The new national standard sets strict safety requirements. According to Hu Yingping, the general sales agent for Dream Years Children’s Furniture in Changzhou, the standard implemented on August 1, 2022, includes detailed rules on edges, hardware, ventilation, and materials. “This standard is even stricter than those in the US and Europe,” she said. Before the standard was introduced, many consumers mistakenly believed that small-sized furniture was suitable for children. Now, parents are more aware and careful when purchasing. Mrs. Liu, a customer shopping for children’s furniture, chose a set made of Finnish pine, emphasizing practicality and safety. Industry sources also noted that solid wood furniture has become the market leader, with panel furniture losing popularity. Parents now prefer natural wood finishes over bright colors. When buying children’s furniture, parents should check for quality and safety. For example, they should inspect drawer bottoms and wardrobe backs to ensure they are made of solid wood. Bookshelves should have back panels to prevent instability. Experts advise choosing light-colored furniture, avoiding overly decorative designs, and ensuring proper space for children to move around safely. Additionally, when setting up a child’s room, it's important to place beds away from windows and choose safe bed heights. Electrical outlets and switches should be installed in accessible locations for future flexibility. The new national standard, officially implemented on August 1, 2022, focuses on safety and environmental performance for children aged 3 to 14. Key requirements include rounded corners, safe folding mechanisms, gap restrictions, ventilation holes, and clear safety warnings. These measures aim to protect children from potential hazards and ensure a safer living environment.

Island Light

Island Light is a type of Pendant Light commonly used over the central island in a kitchen or over a long table in a dining room. It typically has multiple bulbs to provide sufficient light to illuminate the entire area. Island Lights come in a wide variety of designs, ranging from traditional pendant styles to modern, industrial, or artistic designs. Island Lights not only provide light but can also serve as a decorative element in a room.

Chandelier Light is a commonly used lighting decoration on the island of a restaurant, which can not only meet the lighting function, but also serve as the main focal point decoration of the restaurant. The Island Light is made of a variety of materials, such as crystal, glass, metal, etc., and has a variety of design styles, which can be matched according to your preferences and the overall style of the restaurant. As a rule of thumb, a gap of 72 cm to 90 cm between the edge of the Lighting Fixture and the surface of the island is optimal. Small islands (1.2 to 1.5 m long) are usually suitable for two medium-sized Island Light or a large Island Light. As for the larger islands, three medium-sized or two larger Island Light can be handled.
