Farm feed anti-fungal agent homemade technology

Antifungal agents for feed are additives designed to reduce microbial content in animal feed, control microbial metabolism and growth, inhibit the formation of mycotoxins, prevent nutrient loss during storage, and stop feed from becoming moldy, thus extending its shelf life. These agents can be classified into two types: single-component and compound formulations. One effective natural antifungal agent is garlic-based feed additive. To prepare it, peel and crush fresh garlic cloves, mix with an equal amount of cold water, grind into a fine paste, and filter through a sterile cloth. The resulting liquid can be mixed into feed at a 3% ratio. This not only prevents mold but also helps protect livestock and poultry from intestinal diseases. Another option is seaweed powder as a feed antifungal agent. Mix 92% seaweed powder with 4% calcium iodate and 4% calcium propionate. When added at 8%, this mixture effectively prevents mold even under high humidity (100%) and warm temperatures (30°C), ensuring safe storage for up to a month while increasing the iodine content in the feed. Acetic acid-based feed antifungal agents can also be prepared by mixing acetic acid and sodium acetate in a 2:1 ratio, then adding 1% sorbic acid or alkyl propionate. After thorough mixing and drying, the resulting powder can be added to feed at 1% by weight, allowing the feed to remain mold-free for over 90 days regardless of the season. Orange peel extract is another natural solution. Fresh or dried citrus peels are soaked in solvents like methanol, ethanol, ether, or acetone, with the solvent volume being 3–6 times that of the dry peel. After extraction and removal of the solvent through distillation, a yellowish viscous concentrate with antifungal properties is obtained. Adding 1–3% of this concentrate to feed significantly extends its shelf life, even in humid conditions. Lastly, medicinal plant-based feed antifungal agents can be made from dried powders of plants such as Atractylodes lancea, Artemisia argyi, and Pyrethrum. When added at 4%, these powders help suppress mold growth and extend the safe storage period of the feed. Using natural antifungal agents not only improves feed quality but also supports healthier livestock and more sustainable farming practices.
