Aluminum fluoride prices rise sharply

Sharp Increase in Aluminum Fluoride Prices According to recent reports, China's domestic market for dry aluminum fluoride, which had been struggling for several months, has experienced a significant price hike. Over the weekend, the average ex-factory price jumped from 7,110 yuan per ton to 7,533 yuan per ton, marking a 5.95% increase within just one week. This surge placed it at the top of the list for all monitored chemicals. Throughout most of this year, the demand for dry aluminum fluoride remained weak. In early September, the price in Henan dropped as low as 6,800 yuan per ton, falling below the crucial 7,000 yuan threshold. Following this, some producers in Henan and Shandong began reducing their output or halting operations altogether to offset the losses incurred due to plummeting aluminum fluoride prices. Industry analysts point out that multiple factors contributed to the initial price decline. For instance, the price of high-grade fluorspar powder, a key upstream raw material, dropped to 1,500 yuan per ton, representing a nearly 50% decrease from the previous year. Additionally, sluggish electrolytic aluminum prices and financial losses suffered by aluminum companies put further downward pressure on aluminum fluoride prices. "This recent price spike in aluminum fluoride is primarily driven by rising raw material costs," explained Zhang Li, a fluorine chemical industry analyst. She noted that the price of fluorspar in Shandong has increased from 1,625 yuan per ton in early November to around 1,645 yuan per ton today, with prices rising by 50-150 yuan per ton. Furthermore, upstream hydrofluoric acid prices have shown slight recovery. However, Zhang emphasized that these cost increases alone do not fully explain the current price surge. "The National Materials Reserve Bureau recently purchased 160,000 tons of primary aluminum, which has boosted downstream demand. Moreover, aluminum fluoride manufacturers have benefited from recent capital adjustments, leading to higher operational rates," said another analyst, Yuan Ting. She predicts that aluminum fluoride prices will likely continue to climb in the near future. Interestingly, this is the sole positive development in the otherwise lackluster chemical market over the past week. By comparison, the second-highest performer last week saw an increase of just 1.64%. Among the monitored products, only 18 recorded price gains ("flying red"), while 22 reported declines, indicating that the broader chemical market may be entering a challenging phase as winter approaches. "Compared to the first two weeks of November, the third week witnessed a more pronounced decline across various commodities," observed Liu Xintian, chief analyst for the business community. "This suggests that market conditions are becoming increasingly colder."
