The second renovation of the kitchen needs to be carefully waterproof

In today’s fast-paced urban life, finding a peaceful and relaxing space at home is more important than ever. A warm and comfortable living environment can significantly enhance your quality of life. But how do you create such a space? With some thoughtful planning and a few handy tips, you can easily transform your home into a cozy retreat. Life Home Xiaobian has gathered a wealth of practical information, from interior design ideas to home improvement solutions, to help you enjoy a more relaxed and pleasant lifestyle. When it comes to renovating a second-hand home, the kitchen and bathroom are often the most complex areas due to the extensive plumbing systems involved. Any mistake during the renovation process could lead to major issues, such as leaks or structural damage. To better understand the best practices for these renovations, we spoke with Mr. Jing Ran, General Manager of Wanjia Lighting Decoration City, and Zhao Jingquan, Manager of the Home Improvement Service Center. They shared their insights on the key steps and precautions to take when renovating kitchens and bathrooms. One crucial aspect of any renovation is protecting finished products. In the kitchen and bathroom, items like gas lines, water meters, pipes, heating systems, doors, windows, and cabinets should be carefully wrapped with professional protective films and secured with dry strips to prevent damage during construction. However, not everything can be preserved. Experts advise homeowners to mentally prepare for the possibility that some fixtures—such as porcelain sanitaryware—may not remain intact after removal. Some materials used in installation may make it difficult to remove them without damage. For example, toilets that are sealed with bricks or mortar must be completely demolished to be removed, while those attached with glass glue might be salvageable. Similarly, aluminum or plastic steel ceilings that have been in place for several years can be kept, but their corners will likely be damaged. Homeowners may need to replace these parts, though the cost is usually low. As for cabinets, if wall or floor tiles are being removed, about 99.5% of existing cabinets will need to be replaced. Only those that are flexible and not built into the walls might be retained. Older cabinets, especially those over two years old, are typically not worth keeping unless they are in excellent condition. If the original wall and floor tiles are in good condition and not causing any issues, it’s advisable to keep them and cover them with protective film. However, experts recommend against keeping only one set of tiles, as the joints between the wall and floor may be difficult to properly seal, leading to potential problems down the line. It's best to either fully replace or leave the tiles untouched. By following these expert tips, homeowners can ensure a smoother and more successful renovation process, ultimately creating a more comfortable and stylish living space.
