Flat glass new molding method

Float is a new method for floating glass on a molten metal surface to produce flat glass. It is a new process successfully researched by Pilkington in the United Kingdom in 1959. It continuously flows the glass liquid from the pool kiln and floats on the surface of the metallic tin with the protective gas, and draws the glass ribbon of different thickness by the combination of the surface tension of the glass, the gravity and the mechanical pulling force. It is annealed and cooled to form flat glass (also called float glass). Since the glass is formed during the molding, the upper surface forms a fire throwing surface in the free space, and the lower surface is in contact with the molten tin liquid, so that the surface is smooth, the thickness is uniform, and no optical distortion occurs, and the quality is no less than the polished glass. This production method has the advantages of simple molding operation, high quality, high output, and easy automation, and has been widely adopted in the 1980s. If the surface of the high-temperature glass ribbon in the tin bath is provided with an alloy such as copper and lead as the anode and the tin liquid as the cathode, the direct current can be used to cause metal ions such as copper to migrate to the upper surface of the glass to be colored, which is called "electric floatation". ". It is also possible to directly produce surface-colored color glass, heat-reflecting glass, etc., by providing a thermal spraying device between the tin bath outlet and the annealing kiln.
